Gian Ratnapala is the sole member of GCR Business Law, PLLC, a full service business law practice. Gian's practice encompasses many areas of transactional and litigation practice including: business organization, operating documents, contracts negotiation, private placements, real estate investments, and business and personal financial reorganization. Gian represents small business owners in organizing their business operations by drafting and filing articles of incorporation, by laws, articles of organization, shareholder agreements, and other operational documents to build a strong foundation for a successful business. He has also assisted small business with capital investments by private placement of securities with qualified investors. His practice also includes helping small businesses reorganize their debt through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Additionally, Gian has represented many individuals through the bankruptcy process. Gian is also an advisor to several real estate investors, by providing title opinions and risk analysis in purchasing distressed properties. In his practice as a business attorney, Gian also advises community associations in management and litigation.
Gian takes personal interest in each matter, and works hand in hand with his clients to achieve their goals. He has a strong background in bankruptcy practice, representing individuals and business organizations, both as creditors and debtors. Gian has a keen understanding of the Chapter 11 process for small businesses seeking financial reorganization, and has successfully reorganized small business operations.
Gian is an active member of the legal community, currently serving as the secretary of the Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Network, a voluntary bar association of The Florida Bar, serving Broward County. He regularly participates with legal aid and Put Something Back programs by accepting pro bono bankruptcy cases for indigent members of the community. Gian participates with the local community organizations, such as Our Fund and Community Foundation of Broward, by participating in their programs.
Gian was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and immigrated to the United States in 2000. In the United States, Gian resided in Newark, New Jersey for several years, and studied Computer Science and Music at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He graduated from college in 2004, cum laude. After working as a paralegal at Pressler & Pressler, LLP, a renowned New Jersey creditors' rights law firm, Gian applied to law school at St. Thomas University School of Law, in Miami Gardens, Florida. Gian served as the secretary of the Moot Court Board, and was a staff editor of the St. Thomas University Law Review. He also worked as a student instructor in business law and federal taxation classes. Gian joined the PeytonBolin, PL full time after graduating law school summa cum laude in 2010. As an associate at PeytonBolin, Gian gained valuable experience in condominium law, business practice, and bankruptcy practice. In March 2016, Gian founded GCR Business Law to concentrate his practice in the areas of business transactions and reorganization.
